Not really furniture...
So this isn't quite furniture, but it seems that Bay Area based artist Reuben Margolin's kinetic sculptures use a lot of woodwork and similar processes. I just thought this was a perfect example of the power of woodworking as a prototyping language... see the entire make tv episode here : Make.tv:105.

Very nice video of Margolin's work. Wish I could see some of these in person.
Remember, this is a woodworking class, not a furniture class (in response to your title.) I'm not a furniture maker, I'm a sculptor, who is teaching you to make furniture so that you might understand how to make sculpture...
I love the way Margolin translates beauty of nature in motion into “living” sculptures. The waves are particularly fascinating in appearance as well as thinking about how they are engineered. He appears to be local but his site unfortunately doesn’t list any current exhibits, nor can I find any via google, too bad. I really like the idea of adding kinetics to art in this way.
that "spiral wave" looked like an incredibly dense something in the fabric of spacetime... margolin is making some really intruiging work, and i appreciate the approach of this class because executing ideas with no technical ability or experience in the material is obviously shoddy, if not impossible.
